A Turkish Tufts graduate student, Rümeysa Ozturk, has been denied bond and ordered to remain in jail as her immigration case proceeds. Ozturk was detained by ICE after being accused of supporting Hamas, a designated terrorist organization. Her lawyers believe the accusations are retaliation for an op-ed she co-wrote. The Department of Homeland Security presented a State Department memo revoking her student visa as evidence against her bond request. Ozturk is among several individuals with ties to American universities who have faced visa revocations or entry restrictions for supporting Palestinians.
