In his last testament, he asked that the 'suffering that has marked the final part of my life [leads to] peace in the world and for fraternity among peoples.' The Pope's body will lie in state in St Peter's Basilica for three days, and then he will be buried in the basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome.
