The Trump administration has imposed sanctions on an Iranian shipping magnate and his network for laundering illicit petroleum products to generate revenue for Iran. Seyed Asadollah Emamjomeh, along with his son and a constellation of international companies, has been involved in transporting heavily sanctioned crude oil and liquified petroleum gas for the Iranian regime. The Treasury Department states that Emamjomeh's shipping empire has helped fund Iran's nuclear and advanced conventional weapons programs, as well as regional proxy groups such as Hezbollah and Hamas. The sanctions are part of the US's efforts to cripple Tehran's international oil trade and bankrupt the regime.
