Bahrain FM: 'I submitted official request to open embassy in Israel'

Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi today hosted Bahraini Foreign Minister Abd al-Latif a-Ziani at the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem, who paid his first historic visit to Israel at the head of an official delegation that includes senior officials from the Bahraini Foreign Ministry and other government ministries.
Foreign Minister Ashkenazi congratulated his Bahraini colleague and said that after months of phone calls he was happy to meet him face to face for the first time. “This is an historic day in the Middle East that has undergone tremendous positive changes in recent months. We are fulfilling the peace that all Israelis have dreamed of for so many years. We will work to ensure that, as of December 1, the citizens of Bahrain will be able to obtain a visa to Israel through a dedicated website, as well as to operate direct flights between the countries soon.”
During the meeting, Foreign Minister a-Ziani submitted a letter to Minister Ashkenazi with the approval of the Bahrain government to establish an Israeli embassy in Manama, as well as an official request letter for the establishment of a Bahraini embassy in Israel.
