Hendel: Shas and Likud find permit to tree planting in Sabbatical year

Minister of Communications Yoaz Hendel of New Hope addresses the riots in the Negev following the planting of the JNF.
“There must be no forgiveness for the riots in the Negev. The great lie that has taken place here in the last decade, the loss of governance in the Negev and the Galilee and the weaknesses under the Likud rule, are no excuse.
Our need to preserve the land everywhere in the country and to show a tough hand against the violence in the Arab sector and against those who block roads in the Negev, does not depend &#111n them. We are in power and we have no other option but to return sovereignty to all parts of the country. “
Hendel refers to the surprising halachic permit to plant trees in the Sabbatical year, “The Haredi alliance and the Likud have now yielded an important halachic permit: to plant trees in the Sabbatical year to preserve the land. And planting is the solution everywhere, and so it will be done this year as well. There are many areas in the country where when you do not cultivate the land you lose it. &#79n the eve of Tu B’Shvat, agriculture should be recognized and planting is the solution everywhere, and so it will be done this year as well. It is possible to cooperate when caring for the State of Israel, Shas and Association members will be invited to plant “
