The chairman of the Jewish Agency, Isaac Herzog, addressed a letter to the Knesset ahead of the vote on the election of the president.
“I come to this moment as an open book. My public abilities and integrity have been put to the test day after day, hour after hour, for over two decades in which I have fulfilled the mission of my life – to serve our people and country with love, dedication and professionalism,” Herzog wrote. “My in-depth acquaintance with the public and governmental systems and understanding of what it means to fulfill the role of president, Israel’s face, did not make the decision easy for me. On the contrary. It was precisely these factors that led me to consider the decision to run for the position of President of the Eleventh State of Israel with reverence and seriousness.”
