Chairman Yair Lapid of the Yesh Atid party has taken to the Twitter social network to respond to religious Zionist rabbis who oppose the service of women in the Israel Defense Forces.
Lapid tweeted, “859 [female] soldiers have been killed during their military service. Let’s see if these rabbis would stand up to the family of Sergeant Maya Kopstein of blessed memory, who continued to treat the wounded in the Beit Lid attack in spite of warnings of a second explosion and was killed while she was taking care of them.” He continued, “Rabbi Levenstein cannot stay in his position. Even the letter of the “moderate” rabbis about women’s service is not proper.”
