Mizrachi pop singer Omer Adam, launched from reality TV anonymity 12 years ago, is dominating the Israeli charts on both Apple Music and Spotify this week.
Each of the eight songs on his newest album, “The 8,” is occupying the top spots of Apple’s Israeli charts. He’s also the most streamed artist in Israel on Spotify.
It’s a first for any Israeli artist since the official Israel charts of Apple Music and Spotify were first launched.
Adam, 27, known for fusing Mizrahi and Mediterranean rhythms with Western pop, released a new song from the album each day, with each one quickly gaining enormous listening power.
His new position on Apple Music ousted Eyal Golan, who held the title of Israel’s singer of the year for the last decade. Adam was declared the most listened-to singer in Israel in 2020, according to Spotify data.
The singer is currently in the US working on a collaboration with Puerto Rican reggaeton giant Nicki Jam, and has also teamed up with Chico Castillo of the Gypsy Kings, according to a press statement.
The enormously popular singer does not grant interviews to the press.
Adam has scheduled performances for next month in New York and Los Angeles, and hopes to have a performance in the UK in the next year.
Over the last year, the American-born Adam (his father was working in Israel and they returned to Israel when he was three), has worked on his songs in Israel, Greece, Dubai and the US.
To date, Adam has released six albums and two mini-albums.
His career began in 2009 when he took part in the seventh season of the “Kochav Nolad” music reality show, with his first album released a year later.
