Police opened an investigation into a suspected hit-and-run accident after a five-year-old boy riding a bicycle was killed by a truck on Monday in the southern port city of Ashkelon.
The driver did not stop after hitting the boy, police said in a statement.
Paramedics who were called to the location on Yisachar Street declared the boy dead.
Eyewitnesses said they saw the driver bolt the scene after the accident, Channel 12 reported.
Traffic inspectors opened an investigation into the incident and police officers began combing the streets to find the truck, police said.
Magen David Adom said in a statement that paramedics called to the incident found the boy lying several meters away from the bicycle he had been riding, unconscious, with serious head injuries, and showing no vital signs.
