Chairman Avi Nissenkorn of the Histadrut Labor Federation said, Thursday, that the general strike of Egged bus lines around the country, scheduled to start on Tuesday, “is not an end but a means.”
He explained, “For a long time the Histadrut and Egged drivers have done everything to avoid dramatic steps, but the state exploited the time to put off the inevitable. While each branch of transportation in Israel stands on the precipice, the state continues to abandon the public interest and snub its nose, not only at thousands Egged drivers but a public of a million and a half passengers.”
